are made according to HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol). The server processes

HTTP Server Distribution from WebCrawler
- WebCrawler collected this data as part of a normal WebCrawler indexing run,
based on information from 42,579 HTTP servers. HTTP servers running on Unix
based systems accounted for a whopping 83% of the total HTTP servers. This is
an interesting site to look at if you are thinking of putting up your own
server,
but for the latest information, as always, read the Usenet newsgroups.
- Performance Benchmark Tests of Unix Web Servers
Using APIs and CGIs
- This November 1995 report offers an evaluation of Unix servers made using
WebStone.
- Setting up
your own local TCP/IP Network for HTTP
- These detailed step by step instructions cover a range of options from a Mac
connected by Ethernet to a PC running Linux, the NCSA httpd Web server, Windows
NT, and the O'Reilly Web Site server. Simon St.Laurent, the author, stresses
the importance of planning.
